Foreign tourists in Amsterdam generally visit the sites around the canals and a few major attractions elsewhere. The eastern inner city, more precisely the area around Mr. Visserplein, is less familiar territory for tourists. Nevertheless, it is home to numerous attractions including the Rembrandthuis, Gassan Diamonds, the Jewish Historical Museum, the Hermitage museum, the Botanical Gardens and the Music Theatre. These institutions wanted to raise their profile among foreign tourists. They therefore joined forces and, with the help of LAgroup, drew up a marketing plan. We first analysed the area and the institutions and constructed a profile of the envisaged visitors. On the basis of the analysis we generated a list of ten specific actions that the institutions could take to increase awareness of their programmes and the area around Mr. Visserplein among tourists in Amsterdam.
