| How can the culture and cultural history of Maasgouw be exploited to give a new boost to tourism and recreation in the municipality? |

With attractions such as the 'little white city' of Thorn and the Maasplassen, tourism is already an important economic pillar for the municipality of Maasgouw. The local authority asked LAgroup to write a new policy paper on tourism and recreation. In consultation with stakeholders in the sector, we formulated three possible options for developing tourism on the basis of the municipality's core qualities: 1) highighting the rich local history, 2) exploiting the potential of the Maasplassen and 3) developing tourism on the Island in the Meuse. We came up with ten projects to flesh out these alternatives, including a new festival around the fortress walls in Stevensweert, expansion of the existing Grachtenfestival aan de Maas and ideas for special forms of accommodation on and around the Maasplassen. The municipality, the business community and social organisations used our recommendations to assess how and when the projects could be carried out.
