For this challenging assignment - with a deadline of just one month - LAgroup sought the assistance of ZUS in Rotterdam, a consultancy firm specialising in urban landscaping. In a pressure-cooker atmosphere, we analysed developments and macro trends that are relevant for the future of Zuid-Holland (such as the shrinking population and climate change; trends in international travel and the growing competition between cities and regions). We also studied experiences elsewhere, such as Valencia, Boston and the Lake District. Above all, however, we emphasised the urgency of preserving and improving the quality of the cities and countryside in Zuid-Holland. The challenge is to achieve a transformation that would add value for residents, visitors and tourists. The vision was presented in inspiring text in the form of a newspaper, the Leisure Times, to highlight the fact that the task of creating an attractive province in 2040 starts today!
