What should a palace for new media look like?

LAgroup produced a concept for a building that would be combination of a museum, a performance venue and an institute for new media. The plan described the underlying vision, ambitions and objectives as well as the space, the organisation, operations and investments that would be required. The process of drafting this concept reinforced the cooperation between the members of the Virtual Institute for Reseach into Media Culture Amsterdam (VIRMA) - Paradiso, De Balie, Waag Society, Montevideo and Steim. The palace would take some time to build and the VIRMA wanted to increase and demonstrate the belief and confidence in the alliance in the meantime. VIRMA's field of operation is so new that it was necessary to formulate an actual programme and generate enthusiasm. LAgroup therefore also drew up a list of activities that would enable VIRMA to raise its public profile and generate interest among other interested organisations.
